In a South African context, the need to provide multi-lingual, job-related educational material, in homes where domestic helpers are employed, was identified.
Many employees are unable to attend outside classes during working hours; the cost of public transport becomes an additional burden and classes are generally held in English, not their mother tongue.
To "learn as you work, in your own vernacular", is a concept used to great effect in all the EDU-Self training manuals.
Ideally, the employer acts as mentor , overseeing the learning process and providing the materials necessary to work through each lesson.
